5G is finally starting to feel real: As Tips Technology’s previous post regarding 5G gave us a glimpse of the 5th Generation technology future. Now AT&T is launching 5th Generation services.
December is not just time for holidays and enjoyment. December is time to just welcome 5th Generation.
Earlier in December, Qualcomm announced the 5th generation technology will take place in 2019. Qualcomm chips serve as the brain of high-end devices such as Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Google Pixel 3.
In mid of December, AT&T announced to launch its 5th Generation networks the 12 cities of US. But the good thing is that restrictions are not geographic. It will work only with specific 5th Generation Hotspot. The hotspot will provide by Netgear. Which will provide a Wi-Fi that cell phones, tabs, and laptops can connect.
But for the actual 5G supported phones, you will have to wait until 2019. Verizon and Samsung have said that they will launch a 5th Generation supported smartphone in the first half of 2019. AT&T and Sprint will also do the same. Two months before, Verizon launched 5th Generation based internet services as a home internet service. And in 2019 Verizon is planning to start a standards-based mobile service.
What is 5G?
5G is the next (5th) generation cellular technology. 5G promises to enhance the coverage, speed, and response of the wireless network. How fast can we talk? Probably 10 to 100 times speedier than our typical cellular connection. And even much faster than anything we can get with fiber-optic cable.
How does it work?
5th Generation initially is using super-high-frequency spectrum. This spectrum has shorter range but higher capacity. It delivers a huge pipe for online access. But due to the range and some interference problems, the carriers are thinking to start and to explore lower-frequency spectrum. The type which is currently being used in today’s networks. This short spectrum will help 5th Generation across greater distances and through walls and other obstacles.
Who can use 5g?
If you are using 4G compatible devices then you can not enjoy the 5th generation.
You will have to need a 5G compatible device to use the 5th Generation cellular network.
